Scriptural Ground

And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever (Revelation 20:10 NIV).

Prayer of Approach

Righteous God, your ways are the ways that lead to life. You want your people to walk in them. You want us to avoid those paths that lead to eternal torment. Open the eyes of your people and illumine their minds as various choices are placed before us that there may be the escape from every kind of deception provided for us. Lead us more deeply into your presence that we may discern right from wrong, good from bad, truth from lie. Place within us a desire for what enhances our relationship with you and grant us a strong revulsion for what takes us away from you. Free us from the torment that deception brings. Surround us with what is able to guard our souls from destruction.

Through the living Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, hear this prayer. Amen.

A Moment With God

It is when we see the destiny that awaits the wrongdoer that we are prepared to view all that is evil from a renewed perspective. The choice that we make to reject all evil is a choice we make in order to have a different destiny. The season of what is evil does eventually come to an end though it may seem to have reigned without restraint. There is a destiny for the one who deliberately persists in practising what is evil, in being guided by the lifestyle of deception. It is not God’s preferred destiny for us. In turning away from these things we are seeking a better destiny. We are seeking a destiny with God rather than one in which we are separated from His presence in eternity. As we consistently choose to develop our relationship with God we shall be investing in the destiny that He has prepared for us with Him in eternity.
